In their recent study, Holdaway et al. [
1] demonstrated improvements in visual outcome for patients treated from 2006 and beyond compared to prior to 2006. When possible, patients harboring skull base meningiomas were less likely to have visual decline if treated with surgery or ionizing radiation alone. The latter finding may result from a selection bias in which patients requiring combination treatment often have more complex meningiomas and pre-existing cranial nerve dysfunction. Cranial nerves with baseline injury from a skull base meningioma are likely more susceptible to injury at the time of intervention. …
