We have read the interesting results published by Alicandro, et al. [
1] in the article “A comprehensive analysis of all-cause and cause-specific excess deaths in 30 countries during 2020”. Authors demonstrate the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on all-cause mortality in 2020 in more than 20 countries but, also, an increase in mortality related to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Cardiovascular disease was independently associated to higher mortality rates in patients with covid-19 [
2] but, also, the pandemic and lockdowns had deep impact on health care systems because emergent revascularization procedures [
3] and hospitalizations for acute coronary syndromes [
4] were reported to be unexpectedly low throughout 2020. …
