4. Rehabilitation in der Geriatrie

Zusammenfassung

Rehabilitation sollte allen älteren Menschen zur Verfügung stehen, die durch ein akutes Ereignis in ihrer Autonomie bedroht sind oder bei denen es durch eine langsam progrediente Erkrankung zu einem weiteren Funktionsverlust gekommen ist. Rehabilitative Maßnahmen werden in Spitälern, Rehabilitationszentren, Pflegeheimen oder ambulant angeboten. Das Ausmaß der erzielbaren Funktionsverbesserung ist immer von dem prätraumatischen oder allgemeinen Gesundheitszustand abhängig, dennoch kann auch ein scheinbar kleiner Erfolg eine deutliche Verbesserung der Lebensqualität des einzelnen Menschen sein. Rehabilitation ist ein stetiger, multiprofessioneller, interdisziplinärer, dialogischer Prozess in dessen Mittelpunkt der Patient steht. Nur er definiert die individuelle Lebensqualität. Das Alter per se stellt keine Kontraindikation für die Rehabilitation dar. Ganz im Gegenteil haben oft gerade die hochbetagten Menschen klarere Vorstellungen von dem zu erreichenden Ziel und dem von ihnen zu leistenden Einsatz.
