Sutton’s law applies to functional neurology

When the famous 1930’s bank robber Willie Sutton was asked by a reporter why he robbed banks, he allegedly replied “Because that’s where the money is” [
1]. Although he later disputed this quote (but at the same time claiming he probably would have said something similar if he would have been asked), “Sutton’s law” has since been used as an axion for medical students to first consider diagnostic tests that would most likely result in a swift diagnosis [
2]. In the present report, we describe the history of a young woman with an eye movement disorder to illustrate that Sutton’s law may also be a valid strategy when diagnosing functional neurological disorders. …
